Playing catch up

As I have begun my preparation for my top releases of 2022 post. I discovered a number of album releases from this year that I had completely missed somehow. I just want to talk a bit about them as I was just so completely blown away by them.

Second Nature

It’s been a bit since Lucious has released anything new and somehow I missed the album they released earlier this year. When I saw that it was produced by Brandi Carlile and Dan Cobb I was stoked for an album that would surely be infused with some fantastic Americana vibes which they are both known for. I was wrong to assume this would be the case and it has been awhile since I was so excited about being wrong. Instead Second Nature is actually this magnificent tribute to 80’s Synth/Electronica with some brilliant twists; this album is a thrill ride. After the first listen I hopped in the car and just started to drive; it made for a fantastic late night drive soundtrack. This was one of two albums that I just couldn’t stop listening to all weekend.

The second track on the album has become a favorite of mine; its got these psychedelic vibes it makes me want to get up and dance.

MUNA

Continuing with the Synth vibes, another album that I somehow completely missed earlier this year is the self-titled album by the band Muna. It is pure synth-pop brilliance though I feel it hard to define the genre of the album because as the lead singer has said “the sound of this record explodes in a ton of different directions.” I cannot think of a more accurate way to describe it than that. I feel that this album is a great catalyst for change as I listened; also while on my late night drive, I just felt this glorious emotional release. If you are in need of superb synth vibes as well as catharsis you need look no further than this truly sublime album.

This album opens with a tremendous bop!
