Bedroom Demo’s 1&2
I have mentioned Bedroom Demos 1 & 2 on the blog before but I didn’t give them the attention they warrant and honestly still don’t feel like I am doing so now I could write months worth of posts on these albums.
Two degrees from “Sober”
A while back I mentioned that I had a theory about how I feel that all of Melissa’s tracks connect back to the track “Sober” in one way of another. After going back to this many times over the past few months I have finally gathered my thoughts on the subject and am ready to share them so here it goes.
Cerian & parmesan
OMH my friends!?! Cerian is just incredible, such a bright and positive influence on the Twitch music community…
Kendra has such a rare and outstanding voice, which is incredibly fantastic to listen to.
Intertwining roots of emotion
Love and fear run deep like the intertwining roots of all emotion. They seem to require the same level of intimate involvement and they both give things in our life significance.
Profound Thoughts / / Compelling Feelings
This album is one that truly has a story to tell and Alanna uses each track to tell that story in a sincere and astute manner. I am certain that this astounding album is one that I will revisit again and again for years to come.
Face Everything And Rise
When I first heard Sarah what immediately stuck out to me was her extraordinarily warm and smooth vocal timbre, accompanied by a fantastic accent. She has a phenomenal ability to project the emotions of a song whether it be one she has written or otherwise. Cycling through her Spotify library was a remarkable experience. I am anxious to hear whatever comes next. I genuinely love seeing the way in which artists evolve over time.
Young Man Blues
I think my favorite aspect of Luke’s aka L.J.P. music is one that I am quite unqualified to speak on and that is the killer guitar riffs. The guitar in all his songs is just magnificent, it sounds so polished and hearkens back to the 60's and 70’s classic rock era which I have always had a passion for.
A Tale of Two Melodies
A brief preamble before I get started. I have mistakenly said in the past that my intent when reviewing and writing about songs is to “get it right” which is an absurd thing to say. Of course, I always hope that I am not totally off base when it comes to my analysis of tracks but I don’t think music is about right and wrong. Music is about experiencing various emotions across the spectrum; it’s about finding joy and catharsis when you need it, and sometimes having a much-needed cry. I am here to humbly offer my thoughts & feelings on a particular song and if on occasion what I say coincides with the intent of the artist that is of course amazing and I love that.
The Walkmen - Lisbon
Born in the post-punk, new wave era of the 2000’s The Walkmen were an outstanding indie rock band. I was lucky enough to be able to see them live during their second to last tour when they performed with Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes. It was a mind-blowingly spectacular show, one of the best I have ever seen, I still remember it vividly.
Revitalizing Revelations
As the Twitch music community grows so does my list of outstanding musicians that I want to highlight. I have been listening to and admiring these artists for quite a few months now so it seemed high time that I talk about them. My words will likely prove inadequate and as such I would encourage you to listen to these artists yourself.
End Up Alone
After a few years I probably shouldn’t be surprised by this anymore but I am. What blows me away is the way Alanna is able to reach into the very depths of my soul and bring my innermost feelings to the surface. It is so rare that I actually cannot recall a time when I have listened to Alanna’s music and it has not become an emotional and cathartic experience.
All This Time
Today Melissa Lamm released a new EP entitled All This Time which includes two new tracks; “Any Less” and “All This Time” as well as two sensational tracks which I have previously reviewed; “3AM” and “Someone I Forget”. I am now having a remarkably challenging time deciding what my favorite Melissa Lamm song is.
Grief is like a shipwreck
Kate’s music gives me the impression that she is someone with great fortitude; her songs are a veritable emotional force. I have also found myself at times questioning whether or not empaths are real as I listen to her music and it seems the thoughts she is expressing mirror my own so perfectly. I feel that she is very in touch with her emotions as she expresses them in such an admirable way.
Nobody Else
Sometimes in your journey of musical discovery you are fortunate enough to come across an artist whose music seems to speak with you on an entirely distinct from what you predominantly experience. As you listen it gives you the feeling of being an entirely different plane of existence where only you and the music are present.
Top 21 in ‘21
I say this every year and every year I mean it. Each year it gets harder and harder to choose such a small amount of music from the vast amount of tremendous music that was released. I decided to do things a bit different this year. I finally decided to let go of my old ways and adding releases to the list other than albums. This list began with three hundred releases and after many painstaking hours of difficult decisions that I was barely capable of making I narrowed it down to twenty one. There was so much spectacular music that I had to take off this list which never became any easier but I am happy with the way it ended up.
Manic Pixie Dream Girl
Taryn Hadfield a singer-songwriter from the western United States has a marvelous sound that is equal parts folk, rock and pop.
Once you discover who you are nobody can take that away from you. The journey towards that discovery is never an easy one and to me that is what Manic Pixie Dream Girl is about; one person’s journey to not only find themselves but embrace who they are. I for one thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
Empathic Opus
Recently I had the incredible opportunity to have a video chat with Jenem, a musician on Twitch who is a stupendous singer songwriter(I have written about her before, here. She is very enjoyable and easy to talk to. My typical social awkwardness existed only in minimal amounts. We talked mainly about music; big surprise there. I came away from the discussion having learned a few things.
Nocturnal Reflections
Lisa may live near the beach but her songs are no carefree summertime fare. Lisa doesn’t shy away from deeply affecting subject matter; her songs are relatable for those who have felt the sting of heartbreak, the weight of personal loss and the universal pain that comes with growing up.
